The University of Iowa awarded nearly 2,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students degrees at the close of the 2022 fall semester. Eleven percent of the undergraduates graduated with multiple degrees and, as a group, undergraduates posted a 3.17 cumulative grade point average during their stay at Iowa.

More than 870 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa named to the president's list for the 2022 fall semester. President's list status was earned by only two first year undergraduates during the 2022 fall semester; only 133 second year students; only 270 third year students; and only 405 fourth year students.

More than 7,500 undergraduate students at the University of Iowa were named to the dean's list for the 2022 fall semester. Dean's list status was earned by only 2,427 first year undergraduates during the 2022 fall semester at Iowa, only 1,768 second year students, only 1,503 third year students, and only 1,845 fourth year students.

To celebrate the ingenuity, resilience, and innovation of student researchers at the University of Iowa, the Office of the Vice President for Research is again sponsoring the Dare to Discover campaign. University of Iowa PhD student Riley Post hopes his research changes the way we fight floods Post was named the winner of this year's Three Minute Thesis competition (3MT), a university-wide contest that tasks graduate students with relating their research in three minutes or less to a general audience.

Aline Thiengmany, a first-year medical student, says she has always been interested in a career in medicine. Her parents emigrated from Laos, and they raised Thiengmany and her younger sister. "It's confusing enough for people who were born here," Thiengmany says, "but it's very difficult for people who don't speak the language, aren't financially stable, or have low health literacy. Helping him navigate his health got me interested in medicine and working with marginalized groups as a health care provider."

The "From the Front Row" podcast allows UI College of Public Health students an opportunity to hone their communication skills, meet thought leaders in the field, and educate the public on important topics.

More than 40 current students at the University of Iowa are helping to shape the future of their alma mater by serving on one of 18 charter committees that advise institutional leadership on topics ranging from diversity and teaching to research and intercollegiate athletics. The charter committees are another example of the University's commitment to the long tradition of shared governance in which university-wide policies and initiatives are made in collaboration with the campus's many leaders and shared governance representatives.

Frankline Matanji is a recipient of the 2022 Global Student Award, which recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who are leaders deeply engaged in international education on campus or abroad. Matanji is a PhD student in mass communications with a focus in international/development studies, from Mumias, Kenya.

In her own words, Maya Torrez shares what she learned during her study abroad experience in Greece. "it was a privilege to travel to Greece, where the culture of the native people is not only preserved, but revered."

Ankeny, Iowa, native Adelaide Brooks has been awarded a 2022 David L. Boren Fellowship to study Arabic in Jordan. The international relations and French double major, minoring in Arabic, is currently studying in Jordan under the SIT Jordan Geopolitics, International Relations, and Future of the Middle East program. In addition to covering her current program, the Boren Fellowship will fund her enrollment at the Qasid Arabic Institute throughout the spring 2023 semester.

The members of the University of Iowa's 2022 Homecoming Court represent a cross-section of the academic offerings available at Iowa with majors ranging from biochemistry and public health, to mathematics, psychology, and English and creative writing.

In her own words, Sauda Abdullahi shares her study abroad experience in London. "I'm now a fourth-year public health student at the University of Iowa. I decided to go abroad before I even began college because it's always been an interest of mine to explore different cultures outside of the one I grew up in."

The University of Iowa is celebrating Homecoming this week and that means the 14-member executive council is busy, really busy.

In her own words, Tj Grimes talks about her experiences while traveling to Seoul, South Korea, in the spring semester of 2022. "I was fully aware of the differences in ideology from that widely accepted in the United States. Although some do not support the LGBTQ+ community in the United States, the silver lining is that people in the community do have legal rights that they would otherwise not have if they were outside of the United States."

In her own words, Sushma Santhana talks about her many experiences travelling abroad last summer. "Even four months after coming back from my study abroad experience, it's hard for me to collect all of my memories and experiences from my month there and put them into one piece of writing. So much happened in such little time, and while it does seem cliche, my confidence in my identity and my ability to empathize with those around me increased greatly from my time in Italy."

Felix Pabon-Rodriguez is five years into the University of Iowa's biostatistics doctoral program in the College of Public Health, but until he was enrolled in a master's program in Puerto Rico, he was not aware of the field. "I knew there was biology, statistics and mathematics, and I really loved all of those areas separately, but I didn't know there was a specific field in biostatistics," he explained.
