More than 500 current University of Iowa students participated in the 2th annual student-led Dance Marathon , generating more than $1.1 million for the University of Iowa Stead Family Children's Hospital. Dance Marathon has generated more than $34 million in its history.

Building Iowa communities is an annual tradition for the University of Iowa's Tippie College of Business marketing students. In recent years, they've helped Sioux City increase the number of residents who recycle, a coalition of western Iowa governments bring attention to their outdoor recreational opportunities, and developed a strategic marketing plan for Muscatine to rebrand itself.

Studying abroad celebrates and promotes a culture of open-mindedness and inclusivity by providing individuals with the opportunity to experience different cultures first-hand, helping to foster a sense of respect and understanding for different ways of life, as well as breaking down stereotypes. It also provides an excellent opportunity to consider one's personal identity in a new cultural context. The Diversity Ambassador Scholarship was created to support the diversification of UI students who study abroad by providing awards to students from diverse backgrounds and identities, many of whom are traditionally underrepresented on study abroad programs.

Five students who work at CAMBUS -- the University of Iowa's public transportation system -- have been awarded CAMBUS scholarships.

The University of Iowa awarded nearly 2,000 undergraduate, graduate and professional students degrees at the close of the 2022 fall semester. Aline Thiengmany, a first-year medical student, says she has always been interested in a career in medicine. Her parents emigrated from Laos, and they raised Thiengmany and her younger sister. "It's confusing enough for people who were born here," Thiengmany says, "but it's very difficult for people who don't speak the language, aren't financially stable, or have low health literacy. Helping him navigate his health got me interested in medicine and working with marginalized groups as a health care provider."

The "From the Front Row" podcast allows UI College of Public Health students an opportunity to hone their communication skills, meet thought leaders in the field, and educate the public on important topics.

Frankline Matanji is a recipient of the 2022 Global Student Award, which recognizes one undergraduate and one graduate student who are leaders deeply engaged in international education on campus or abroad. Matanji is a PhD student in mass communications with a focus in international/development studies, from Mumias, Kenya.

Ankeny, Iowa, native Adelaide Brooks has been awarded a 2022 David L. Boren Fellowship to study Arabic in Jordan. The international relations and French double major, minoring in Arabic, is currently studying in Jordan under the SIT Jordan Geopolitics, International Relations, and Future of the Middle East program. In addition to covering her current program, the Boren Fellowship will fund her enrollment at the Qasid Arabic Institute throughout the spring 2023 semester.

In her own words, Sauda Abdullahi shares her study abroad experience in London. "I'm now a fourth-year public health student at the University of Iowa. I decided to go abroad before I even began college because it's always been an interest of mine to explore different cultures outside of the one I grew up in."
