Lauren Egan: Iowa Screenwriting Class Teaches Students How to Create Must-See TV

Lauren Egan was one of a select group of undergraduate and graduate students-plucked from a pool of 88 applicants-who collaborated with Josh Parkinson, whose credits include the HBO comedy Eastbound and Down and AMC horror series The Terror, on this world-building. A major in English and creative writing and cinema, Egan gleaned valuable real-life lessons from Parkinson and a range of guest stars who had honed their writing chops at Iowa.

Class of 2027: A history-making group

The University of Iowa continues to attract high-achieving students. This fall's incoming first-year class, totaling 5,064 students, has topped previous records with an average high school grade-point average (GPA) of 3.83. The average high school GPA for the classes of 2026 and 2025 were 3.82 and 3.81, respectively.
