Iowa Nueroscience Institute names undergraduate Summer Scholars

Three University of Iowa undergraduates -- Brianna Blaine, Mostafa Telfah, and Lydia Watkins -- have won the 2024 Iowa Neuroscience Institute Summer Scholar Awards. The INI Summer Scholar Program supports Iowa undergraduates planning to pursue research during the summer in the lab of an INI faculty member. As INI Summer Scholars, the students receive a stipend of $5,000 and have the opportunity to attend a summer undergraduate seminar series and a variety of informal events.

Victoria Priola: Interweaving experimental archeology and feminist anthropology

Victoria Priola is determined to uncover the mysteries behind prehistoric textiles and ceramic textile tools. The Pennsylvania native and 2023 Archaeology of Portugal Fellow is currently in her sixth year at the University of Ioaw's Anthropology the graduate program, studying ancient textile production in southwestern Iberia during the Copper Age and early Bronze Age (approximately 3000-2000 BCE).

Nigel Gawa: An unusual path to health care leadership

Executive Master of Health Administration (EMHA) student Nigel Gawa has had an unusual path to health care leadership. Gawa started working at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics (UIHC) in environmental services in 2015 and has been promoted three times into progressively higher supervisory positions. He completed a bachelor's degree in social work from the UI and expects to graduate with an Executive MHA degree in summer 2023. Recently, he was offered and accepted the administrative fellowship position at UIHC starting summer 2023. Gawa recently answered a few questions about his academic journey and professional aspirations.

Khyathi Gadag V. is a PhD student in the University of Iowa College of Public Health with degrees in dental surgery and health care administration.
